Garment Care Instructions

Proper care of garments help them last longer. Consider these recommendations for washing and storing. You can find additional tips for making your clothes last longer on the blog.

Washing

Handwashing and hang drying is the preferred method for cleaning. If you only spilled a little of your smoothie, you can bypass washing for a spot clean. To do this, gently work the stain with a damp cloth (a little soap or spot cleaner will go a long way). This can also serve as a pretreatment before a full wash for stubborn stains.

Option 1: Hand wash. Fill a basin with warm water, add a small amount of detergent, gently work the material with your hands paying special attention to stains, delicate features, and color transfer. Rinse. Gently squeeze out the excess water. (To decrease drying time, lay the garment flat on a clean towel. Roll the towel, squeezing more water from the garment. Unroll and separate the garment.) Hang to dry.

Option 2: Machine wash. Run the machine on one of the gentler cycles, using warm or cool (even better for energy conservation) water, and a lower spin setting. Hang drying is always recommended.

Storing

Garments with enough structure to hang in a closet may be stored hanging, once fully dry. If the garment is stretchy, knit, or delicate try storing the garment folded in a drawer or basket. Take extra care when storing garments of opposing texture next to each other to reduce damage (fraying, tearing, etc.).
